New Facility Brings Improvements to Stern Industries
Stern Industries has moved in to a new facility, and has plans to add a new machine with additional rotational molding capabilities. The company moved to a 50,000 sq. foot facility located at 1100 Industrial Park Road in Brainerd, MN. The additional space will enable the company to house larger machines, and create an enhanced workflow.
In addition to the move, we’ve won two new assembly projects; the Thermoformed and Blow Molded Fuel Tank. We will assemble the tanks with components including the Fuel Gauge, Grommets, Filters, and Valves, and then ship the finished products directly to our customers.
In order to make production run smoother, the new space will allow us to set-up stations by each machine, so that parts can be completed within close proximity. That way, potential problems will be caught immediately, and communication throughout the facility will be improved.
Our custom rotational molding and assembly practices lend themselves to a variety of products, which carries into our new machinery. The rotationally molded parts we supply can be molded into several complex shapes and configurations in order to meet any our client’s unique needs.
For more information on the new machinery with rotational molding capabilities coming to Stern, please keep an eye out for an upcoming blog, or call us at 218-828-5076.
“We are the Matchmakers!”
What exactly is matchmaking? It’s the process of choosing the right supplier for the right customer. The difference between finding the source yourself and working with Stern Industries is that we have a long history in the business, so we know what to do and where to look.
The market is getting increasingly competitive, that’s why we make sure to balance your needs with efficient operations and superior service. Stern’s strong problem solving capabilities coupled with strategic partnerships throughout the industry allow our solution team to match you with the suppliers that will work best for you. We’re able identify quality requirements, and locate the parts needed to fulfill your requirements. How do we do this? Typically, we take a blueprint for your part concept and determine how the part is going to be used. Our engineering partners find the most suitable plastics or rubber manufacturing process, and then determine which vendor can supply the best materials. We even manage your inventory process by requesting quotes from multiple suppliers, and selecting the best options available. In order to keep the process quick and efficient, we issue the order to the supplier, and have the items drop shipped directly to you.
At Stern, our questions identify problems, generate solutions and reveal opportunities. Our sales reps are open to talk to you about the need for parts, and are open to discuss all of the available options. We are ultimately determined to provide you with the insight and direction you need to meet your operations and business goals.

Is Rotational Molding Right for You?

Contributed from http://www.crowwingkayaks.com/.
What is rotational molding? When is rotational molding the right engineering process for your needs? Luckily for you, Stern Industries specializes in rotational molding, and we have all of the answers for your molding questions. Rotational molding is a process in which plastic and plastisol materials and powders are put into a heated rotating mold so that the molten plastic melts and coats the inside of a mold cavity. This process produces large, hollow parts, which are then used for a variety of applications. We typically recommend that this method is used for those who are undertaking low to medium sized volume productions, depending on the size of your product (so think around several hundred parts through 4,000 parts). Why is this method more useful for smaller sized productions? That’s due to the speed of the molding—this is a fairly slow process, where we see that one round can take up to 90 minutes. Additionally, when compared to blow molding, tooling in rotational molding tends to be much less expensive.
Our rotational molding department certainly knows how to keep busy. Although the majority of the work we handle in this department consists of component parts for larger OEM products (in agricultural, recreational, and marine applications, among others), we do have the ability to mold full products (along with assembly!)—we are especially proud of the 9 ft. rotationally molded kayaks we have engineered! Rotational molding is particularly beneficial for industries with the need for larger plastic parts, just not in large quantities.
Have you decided if rotational molding is the right process for your needs? See how we can help!
We Got the (Plastic) Part!
Welcome to Stern Industries! We fill an interesting niche in the plastics and polymers manufacturing industry, so let’s introduce ourselves with a bit of history. Stern Industries began business in 1995 as a spin-off of Stern Rubber Company, a manufacturer of custom molded rubber parts who had been in business since the early 1970’s. Many of Stern Rubber’s customers expressed interest in having them source other types of polymer products, so they began acting as an intermediary between clients and a variety of plastic part manufacturers. This part of the business became so successful that a decision was made to create a separate entity named Stern Industries, and here we are. We began operating as a strategic sourcing partner for our customers’ plastic and rubber component needs.
At Stern Industries, we offer an innovative approach to part procurement. The concept is simple: show us your part, tell us your quantity, quality, and schedule requirements, and let us source it for you. Our engineering partners will determine the best material, identify the most suitable plastics or rubber manufacturing process of the many choices available today, and find the right vendor, which is a very demanding task in today’s global marketplace. We have established relationships with high quality manufacturers, both domestic and off-shore, that will meet your quality requirements while adhering to your supply chain mandates. We will even warehouse the parts and manage your inventory process. But that’s not all we do! We also maintain and manage a rotational molding and assembly facility (something we would love to tell you more about in the coming months!).
